What is MSBU?
Milwaukee Steppers and Ballroomers United (MSBU) are one of the premiere social dance groups in Milwaukee. For over 10 years MSBU has used the social dances of Boppin, Chicago Steppin and Detroit Club Style Ballroom to directly affect change on the Milwaukee community by establishing four annual events.
1. 2014 was the first year MSBU presented "Steppin with the Stars." This event is setup just as it sounds. Community business leaders, entertainers and public figures are taught the art of Chicago Steppin for three months, then they work with expert partners from around the United States to develop a routine they will use in competition at the annual fundraiser. The money that is raised is donated to two foundations which help families who are dealing with the affects of cancer.
2. MSBU has a series of events during the month of June that deal with violence awareness in the Milwaukee community. The Stop the violence campaign rallies Milwaukee to organize and participate in an effort to curb violence in the City.
3. Milwaukee's Largest Steppin Contest (MLSC) is a dance contest for prize money, where Steppers from across the country converge in Milwaukee to put their talents to the test against the best. This contest includes all levels of competition. Categorizes include Beginners (2 years of experience), Original New School (Best of the Best bring their "A" Game) and Trio where three people dance with each other displaying their mastery of the dance.
4. MSBU hosts an annual toy drive to help families who have love ones dealing with Sickle Cell or other blood disorders. The toys are donated to Children's Hospital's Christmas party and given to the children who are patients of the Hematology clinic.
